Celebrating the women of Nina's: Krysta Ryan

Name:

Krysta Ryan

Role:

Marketing Manager

Location:

Nina's HQ, Dunsborough, WA

How would you describe yourself?

Tenacious and enthusiastic. I am not good at doing nothing, and I love making lists. My phone is full of lists.

Who inspires you?

Sir David Attenborough. He's my absolute hero.

And Elle Woods. A character who was told she couldn't, so she decided that she could.

What's at the top of your bucket list?

To see a live moose.

...and to make every cake in the Women's Weekly Birthday Cake Book.

What are you most passionate about right now?

Website load time. Any more than 3 seconds is unacceptable to me. It's been my mission for the last 18 months.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I am currently attempting to landscape our backyard. However, I have never had a lawn before, (we just bought our first home - we previously rented apartments) so I've learned some very hard lessons about lawn care in the last 6 months. Namely, you actually have to water a lawn for it to stay alive....I'm not proud to admit that I just assumed grass just grew. It certainly seems to everywhere else in our yard without any effort!

I also love baking. I have more success with the baking than I do with the gardening.

How long have you been with Nina's, and what attracted you to working with us?

I've been with Nina's for 3 years. I had just moved home from Melbourne with my husband for family reasons, and needed a new passion project. I responded to a very interesting job ad for a 'Website Wizard' and one highly entertaining interview later, here I am! It was so clear right from the start that this was a place that I could expand my skills further, whilst contributing to company growth.

What is your favourite part of your job?

The vast range of things I deal with everyday. Previously, I'd worked in purely ecommerce and customer experience, but here, I manage all aspects of the marketing experience, from content creation, to campaign implementation, to website troubleshooting.

What are the most challenging aspects of your job?

Timelines. We work to an extremely tight ever changing schedule, and you never know what's going to land on your desk each day. Or your floor. You don't know panic until you drop a 20k pink diamond into carpet!!

What is your favourite Nina's piece - past or present - and why?

I'm obssessed with pear cut diamonds, so the Pegasus Pear Cut Halo Ring was love at first sight for me. I also adore all of the diamond bands we just received, so am trying hard to narrow down my choices here for my next sparkly spend.

What are your long term career goals?

What advice would you have for someone wanting to pursue a career in Marketing?

You are never too big for any opportunity, and no learning is ever wasted. Find good role models - I owe so much to people who recognised my potential before I did, and showed me the way. Work hard. Set goals.

And don't let people tell you you can't. You absolutely can.
